A one-line orientation to every unit in this paper, so you can see the shape of the whole syllabus before deciding where to start. Full notes for each unit are on its own page.
Builds political theory as a discipline. It defines what is political, maps the four major traditions — liberal, Marxist, anarchist and conservative — and distinguishes the normative, historical and empirical approaches. It then introduces critical and contemporary perspectives, notably feminist and post-modern, which interrogate whose politics counts and how power and knowledge operate.
Read unit 1 notes →Connects theory to democratic practice. It traces the history of democracy as an idea, evaluates procedural democracy and its critiques, then contrasts it with deliberative democracy, which foregrounds reasoned public discussion. Participation and representation close the section by asking how democratic voice is actually aggregated into collective decisions.
Read unit 2 notes →The published lecture allocation is the best guide to how much attention each unit deserves. Working through the units in the order below, weighted by their lecture counts, keeps your effort proportional to how much of the syllabus each unit represents.
One dot per published lecture. A unit with more dots is worth proportionally more revision time and, on the published structure, more likely to carry a larger share of the question paper.
The official course contents identify papers by number and title only and print no paper code, so no code is shown on this page. If your college issues a code on the question paper, use that.
